The next of kin have been notified of the victim who died Monday evening following an altercation with Baxter County Sheriff’s Deputy Craig Gates.  Deputy Gates had responded to a call early Monday evening of a theft at Lone Rock Store where a tractor was reported stolen along with a farm implement which was attached to the tractor. Then a tractor matching the description was driven past the store as the deputy was making the report.  Gates followed the tractor on CR 72 and pulled the driver over.  50 yr old Michael Lavelle Holliman of Nacogdoches, Texas exited the tractor with a crossbow, they struggled and Holliman was shot by Deputy Gates.  The deputy received a minor injury in the altercation. Holliman died from the gunshot. A disabled vehicle registered to Holliman was found a short distance away from the scene on a forest service road. A makeshift campsite was also found in a wooded area about one half mile from the location of the vehicle.  It was confirmed the tractor Holliman was driving was the same one stolen and the farm implement was found yesterday.  Michael Holliman had an outstanding felony bench warrant for possession of firearms by Certain Persons, a convicted felon and he had been arrested in January by Mtn Home Police for DWI. Holliman was found to have an extensive arrest history in MO, CA, IA, and TX and convictions for Armed Robbery, Grand Theft and Assault.  Authorities are trying to determine why Holliman was in the area, he’s not known to have any family or acquaintances here.  Deputy Gates will be on administrative leave for a few days.
