A man from Vanzant has been found to be mentally incompetent to stand trial in connection with the 2017 case in which he allegedly beat several puppies to death with a baseball bat. Josiah Wheat is now being held at the Missouri Department of Mental Health. Wheat was originally charged with 5 counts of animal abuse, but when he was in court in November of last year, the judge ordered he undergo a mental evaluation.
