Douglas County Authorities Arrested A Father And Son Wednesday

With the help of a drone, authorities in Douglas County arrested a father and son on drug and fleeing charges after a high-speed chase on county roads. Wednesday morning, just after midnight, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office was set up all along County Road 209, waiting to catch an Ava man wanted for active probation violations. That man and his son are now behind bars thanks to help from a citizen and his drone.  Sheriff Degase says 53-year-old Scottie Pippin had failed to appear in court several times and had recently ended contact with his probation officer.  So deputies set up along a county road where Pippin had recently been visiting.  One man flew his drone while the sheriff watched on his phone.  Once deputies spotted Pippin, the chase was on.  At one point Degase was able to see on the phone that a deputy was heading straight towards Pippin. The deputy managed to miss hitting Pippin head-on and ran off into a ditch.  He was not injured.  The chase got up to speeds of 55 mph. The damage to the car didn’t allow the men to flee, but if they had Degase says the drone would have led deputies right to them.  Degase says he hopes to get a drone for the department in the coming year.  27 year old Dustin Pippin  of Ava, were arrested and taken into custody. During a search of the vehicle, illegal narcotics were found in the car. Dustin Pippin was arrested on his active Probation warrant and Scottie Pippin was detained for 24 hours while charges were filed. Scottie Pippin was checked by Cox Ambulance for injuries sustained in the pursuit before being transferred to the Douglas County Jail.
