Thayer City Council Met Tuesday Night

Thayer City Council met last night at City Hall for their regular monthly meeting. The Meeting began at 6:30 with a hearing to discuss the Water Rate Study. then at 7 the regular meeting began with the council taking care of their normal monthly business. During pubic participation the council agreed to grant a kennel license to William T Hass and also to Bobby Romans. They also agreed to renew the appointment of Sam Currier to the SCORDC board with SCOCOG. Thayer High School Principle Mark Pitts talked to the council about the growing problem of vaping or E-Cigarettes. The council discussed raising the legal age to purchase the E-Cigarettes to 21 and agreed to have a public hearing and then possibly raise the age. The Council also heard from Emergency Management Director Mark Arnold about 911 addressing. Mr Arnold and the Mayor agreed to go to the next Oregon County Commission meeting. The Council then voted to raise the water and sewage rates. the council also discussed getting an internet use tax on the ballot as soon as possible. The alderman then agreed to have the Mayor sell the chain link fencing scrap at his auction, with no commission. The city Council discussed a new Dump truck and Councilman Roger Foley agreed to go to Oklahoma and check it out and if it is good bring it back for the city.  They also discussed accepting bids for trash service. The Council voted to give Steven Bowers a raise after his 90 day probation period and to purchase FR gear for Bowers. The city council agreed to approve Police Chief Daryl Childers request to attend the MIRMA seminar. They discuss the need for a digger truck. They approved the purchase of a salt spreader. They approve the renewal of the CAP program.  Then the Council discussed the City pool and Mr Robert Crase addressed the council on the issue pointing out the need to use the industrial park to get a factory and that the pool was in a prime location. The council is looking into what they can do at the city pool since the pool was built with a grant. The City council also discussed amending their water/electric cutoff rates to reflect their current procedures. The city council meets the second Tuesday of each month at city hall.
