ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Missouri State University-West Plains (MSU-WP) Grizzly Basketball picked up a much needed road victory Wednesday night in St. Louis.

The Grizzlies, now 9-13 overall, defeated St. Louis Community College 60-54 in a Missouri Community College Athletic Conference (MCCAC) contest.

“I thought we competed better last night and played with the toughness needed to win on the road,” said Grizzly Basketball Assistant Coach Jason Owens. Owens once again filled in for head coach Jared Phay, who remained at home due to COVID-19.

Sophomore forward Nico Hill led the way for the Grizzlies on the scoreboard, netting 12 points. He also had four rebounds and four blocked shots.

Freshman guard Isaiah Lewis followed with 12 points, and sophomore guard Byron “Tre” Breland added 9. Breland also had six rebounds.

The Grizzlies return home this weekend to host Region 16 rival Moberly Area Community College. Tipoff is 7 p.m. in Joe Paul Evans Arena at the West Plains Civic Center.

The evening also will include two special presentations at halftime. Former Grizzly Volleyball standout Mafo Joelle will be inducted into the Grizzly Athletics Hall of Fame, and longtime MSU-WP and Grizzly Athletics supporter Jerry Hall will receive the Grizzly Track Award for his contributions to Grizzly Athletics.
