WEST PLAINS, Mo. – Jared Phay, head coach of the Missouri State University-West Plains (MSU-WP) Grizzly Basketball team, today announced the signing of Kendon Peebles from Virginia Beach, Virginia.

The 6-foot, 6-inch wing helped lead the Catholic High School Crusaders to a 25-7 record and a quarterfinal appearance in the state championships this past season.

Peebles averaged 13.1 points and six rebounds per game and earned first team all-conference honors.

“Kendon is very athletic and can play a variety of positions,” Phay said. “He can drive it, shoot it and also rebound the ball and block some shots.”

Peebles decision to tender his letter of intent with the Grizzlies reunites him with guard Sterling White, a fellow Crusader who is returning to the Grizzlies this season for his sophomore year.

The Crusaders are coached by Bobby Steinburg, who has extensive experience as an NCAA assistant coach and a successful tenure as head coach in the NJCAA ranks. Steinburg and Phay were on staff together at the University of Idaho in 1999. Steinburg served as an assistant coach on the Vandals squad while Phay served as a graduate assistant.

“Kendon will come in more prepared than the average freshman,” Phay said. “He will be just like Sterling because the league they play in is very good, and they played for a coach who knows a lot about college basketball.”
