After learning earlier this month that Ozark County could not collect the half-cent sales tax that was approved by voters in November, now the county will have to decide if they want to put the issue back on the ballot in April. According to reports 155th district state representative Travis Smith has been working with the Department of Revenue on the issue and says that the measure will have to be voted on again since there is no way to resurrect it. There is a statute passed in the Missouri legislature in 2017 putting a cap on the amount of local sales tax the counties can collect.  The way the ballot was written, violated the statute. The county commissioners will have to vote to put the measure on the ballot in April before January 24th Even if the issue makes it on the April ballot and is approved, it would likely be late summer or fall before the county sees any revenue from the tax.
