SPRINGFIELD — Missouri State men’s basketball coach Dana Ford announced Monday (May 22) the signing of two-time Pennsylvania Player of the Year Davion Hill for the upcoming season.

A 6-foot-2 guard from Williamsport, Pa., Hill is the younger brother of former Bear Alize Johnson and MSU walk-on David Hill In 2022-23, Davion averaged 34.3 points and 3.8 rebounds per game while burying 55 three-pointers.

He was named the Pennsylvania 2A Player of the Year by the state’s sportswriters in 2023 after earning 1A Player of the Year honors as a junior. His standout high school career at St. John Neumann Regional Academy saw him earn all-state honors four straight seasons and collect 2,801 career points while leading his team to four straight district titles.

Highlighting his remarkable 2022-23 season, Hill logged 60 points in a win over Millville (Jan. 14), and posted 50 points in a 62-61 regional loss to Lancaster Mennonite (March 11) in the final game of his prep career for coach Louis Roskowski. Hill had 30 or more points in all but five games in 2022-23 and registered 22 or more points in every contest.

Hill became the first player in Williamsport area history to earn first-team all-state honors in all four years of high school basketball. He obliterated the Lycoming County career, single-season and single-game scoring records while leading the Knights to their 10th straight league championship.

In his junior year, he averaged 26.1 points and snagged 6.1 rebounds per game for a 26-4 team that was state 1A runners-up. He eclipsed 1,000 career points as a sophomore and became the first area player since 2006 to reach that milestone in his 10th-grade season.

Neumann was 80-20 during Hill’s four years. Hill also had scholarship offers from Maryland, Kent State and Towson.
