Old Scam Back Again

The Bank of Salem wants to remind everyone of an old scam making a new appearance in our area.  You might receive a phone call from a person claiming to be from Microsoft and offering to make your computer run faster by accessing it and doing some fancy analytic moves.  Do not allow this. Hang up.  These scammers are very convincing and could possibly even call you by name.  If you allow them access into your computer, you are granting them access to your most private information which includes you banking info, credit card info and personal details of your life. Also a reminder to never send money to anyone to claim a prize or paying taxes, or to keep your utilities from being turned off, or to bail a grandchild out of jail.  When you receive phone calls requesting money that needs to be taken care of immediately, check it out on your own.  Never call back a phone number they give you, find the correct number yourself. Ask questions.  First and foremost, protect yourself.  By the way, those Publisher Clearing House scammers are back at it again. PCH does not call and tell you that you have won money and they certainly don’t tell you to send them money to pay the service fees or taxes or anything else.  Stay smart and you won’t get scammed.
