Mammoth Spring Woman Sentenced on Murder Charge

A Mammoth Spring woman will spend years behind bars after she pleaded guilty to biting and beating an elderly woman which led to her death.  56 year old Jennifer Lea Collins pleaded guilty to murder in the second degree. She was sentenced to 30 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction with 10 years suspended. Authorities say Collins caused the death of 92 year old Jane Sandefur, of Cherokee Village. She had been hired as Sandefur’s caregiver. On May 11, 2017, Collins attacked Sandefur. The woman’s son told emergency responders that Collins hit and beat the woman. The elderly woman sustained multiple injuries including multiple bite wounds. Sandefur died of complications from pneumonia brought on by the attack. Collins was initially charged with battery until Sandefur’s death.
