On 06/15/2019, West Plains Police Department responded to the intersection of US Highway 63 and US Highway 160 for a report of a two vehicle motor vehicle crash
Upon arriving on the scene of the crash, Officers reported the two vehicles, a 1998 Volvo semi-truck was located off of the roadway and a 2011 Chevrolet Cruz still on US Highway 63 with major damage.
Preliminary reports indicates that the Volvo semi-truck was traveling southbound on US Highway 63 when the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze, driven by Craig D. Kelly of West Plains, turned westbound from US Highway 63 onto US Highway 160 in the path of the semi-truck. Reports show the semi-truck collided with the passenger car and then ran off the roadway.
Craig Kelly was taken to Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains with serious injuries and was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. Next of kin has been notified. The driver of the semi-truck was identified as Douglas Vanvig of Ozark, Missouri, sustained no injuries from the crash.
This matter is still under investigation. More information will be released when available and appropriate.
