SPRINGFIELD – Missouri State men’s basketball head coach Dana Ford announced today the receipt of a valid scholarship agreement from former Valparaiso standout Donovan Clay.

Clay, a 6-foot-7, 205-pounder from Alton, Illinois, was a Preseason All-MVC selection in 2020-21 after garnering MVC All-Freshman Team honors in his debut campaign of 2019-20. He averaged 9.4 points and 4.6 rebounds per game as a freshman while ranking seventh in the MVC in blocked shots with 35.

This season, Clay averaged 10.1 points and 5.5 rebounds per game for Valpo with 63 assists and 35 blocked shots.

“We are very excited to have Donovan join our program,” said Ford. “We feel Donovan is extremely talented and so versatile with his size. At 6-foot-7, he can play all over the floor on both sides of the ball. Anyone can play with him, and he can play with anyone.”

Clay is the second commitment to join Ford’s Bears next season. Local product Isaac Haney, a 6-foot-2, 160-pound guard from Kickapoo High School in Springfield signed a National Letter of Intent on Nov. 11 in the early signing period.

The Bears are coming off a 17-7 campaign in which they finished third in the Missouri Valley Conference. MSU returns 90 percent of its scoring and 92 percent of its rebounding with all five starters returning for the upcoming season.
