What was to be a controlled burn in Fulton County yesterday turned into an out of control brush fire that burned  more than 200 acres just outside of south Viola.  The burn was to only char off about 125 acres in an area behind The Bear Creek Quilt Shop but quickly became uncontrollable when the morning fire jumped the fire line around noon. Fulton County and 9 other fire departments in the area were called in to help get the wildfire under control as the AR Forestry Commission worked for hours to create new fire lines.  The largest concern was various structures in the area which firefighters were able to protect.  It took about 6 hours to get the blaze under control. A continued search for any hot spots will continue today as gusty winds along with the dry conditions will be in issue with even the smallest spark.  Every firefighter wants residents to be aware of the danger of burning right now in these conditions as yesterday’s ‘controlled burn’ was proof that even that can get out of control quickly and become a hazard for everyone in the area.
