The news is released and Missouri State University –West Plains has a woman to lead the university for the first time in history. Dr. Shirley Lawler will begin as chancellor June 1st. Several strong candidates applied for the position over the last months since current Chancellor Dr Drew Bennett announced his retirement last August. Dr. Bennett will retire the end of this spring semester.
