Man arrested for Trying to Smuggle Drugs Into Jail

A Fulton County man accused of trying to smuggle drugs into the Baxter County detention Center last year has been arrested in California. 32 year old Kevin Burch went to the Detention Center last August to deliver a bible to an inmate. The jail supervisor took the bible and while inspecting it found meth, marijuana and tobacco in vacuum sealed baggies in the binding. Investigators found that Burch, inmate Mikal Short and Cindy Piatt had conspired together to purchase a bible, conceal drugs and have it delivered to the jail. Piatt was arrested and sentenced to 12 years in prison, Short got 10 years. authorities had been searching for Burch until his arrest in California after allegedly trying to run over someone. He was returned to Baxter County and is charged with felony furnishing prohibited articles, delivery of meth, conspiracy to furnish prohibited articles and unlawful use of a communication device as well as enhanced penalty for proximity to certain facilities and being a habitual offender.  His bond was set at $75,000
