A Cabool Man died last night as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after leading the Highway Patrol on a chase.  40 year old Micah Ross was wanted for failure to appear last week on a drug case from 2016.  Just after 4 Monday afternoon, Highway Patrol officers were notified by an off duty Cabool Officer that Ross was sitting in a vehicle on Panther Road south of Cabool. Ross fled from the trooper and was pursued along several county roads until the trooper lost sight of Ross. After a pause in the search, Ross’s vehicle was spotted again by a Cabool officer and a pursuit began again. Ross entered a business district at Cabool and exited his vehicle showing a handgun pointing to his head. He entered two occupied businesses with officers following him and telling him to drop the gun. A section of the highway in the area was closed by the patrol after he appeared on the roadway. Around 5:15 when confronted by officers, one of whom deployed a taser, Ross fired the fatal shot. The area was near the Cabool Airport Ross was pronounced dead at the scene by The Texas County Coroner. An autopsy is planned Thursday in Springfield. An investigation is ongoing and overseen by the patrol’s division of drug and crime control.
