Rookie Pitcher Throws 7 NO-HIT Innings but Cardinals Still Lose

The St. Louis Cardinals got 7 innings of NO-HIT pitching from rookie Daniel Poncedeleon last night, but the the bullpen gave up 2 runs with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th to lose to the Reds at Great American Ballpark 2-1 in game one of the series.  Poncedeleon made his National League debut just 14 months after being hit in the head by a line drive and undergoing emergency brain surgery.  His remarkable recovery was nothing short of a fairy-tail, as he mowed down the Reds for 7 innings giving up no-hits, while walking 3 and had 3 strike-outs.  He was pulled after the 7th, and 116 pitches, for a pinch hitter with the Cards leading 1-0.  Bud Norris was touched for both runs in the bottom of the 9th and got the loss.  The Cards and Reds play again tonight, Austin Gomber will pitch for St. Louis.
