There have been several reports of a loud boom heard across the western parts of Fulton County and also in Izard and Baxter Counties. The boom happened between 2:30 and 2:40 this afternoon. Several photos were posted on Social Media of contrails circling the sky following the boom. The Little Rock Air Force Base in Jacksonville says there were no military aircraft in the area loud enough to cause such a sound. Sheriff’s offices in Baxter, Fulton and Izard Counties also have not been able to pinpoint the cause of the boom. There have been reports of hearing the boom in Mountain Home, Norfork, Clarkridge, Viola, Salem and Calico Rock. The U.S. Geological Survey is not reporting any earthquakes in the area.
