The Federal Emergency Management agency has announced that a nationwide test of the wireless emergency alerts and the Emergency Alert System. Everyone will get an alert on their phone at the same time this afternoon at around 1:18. Smart phones will display “presidential alert” with a note saying “this is a test of the national wireless emergency alert system. No action is needed.” FEMA says the test will determine the operational readiness of the infrastructure for distribution of a national message and determine whether improvements are needed. Then around 1:20 a test of the National Emergency Alert System will happen. This is the test you would hear on radio stations and see on television. These type of alerts would be sent if there was a national emergency. Again the Wireless test is at 1:18 and the National Alert Test is at 1:20.
