The Army Corps of Engineers is set to begin a study on the Black River soon, in order to find the best way to minimize the catastrophic flood damage that Pocahontas has seen twice over the past decade.
The study on the Black River has been in the works for two years now but has been delayed because of costs. The federal government has been operating under continuing resolutions for funding, rather than full budgets, which has made it difficult for Randolph County and Pocahontas to get the federal funding needed.
The study will determine the most efficient way to help keep flooding in check for homes, businesses and the water supply in Pocahontas.
