A man from Lakeview who was sentenced to 33 years in prison for allegedly beating, kicking and raping a woman in 2016 now wants to withdraw his plea. 56 year old David Gengler entered a no contest plea but wrote a letter to the judge and prosecutor saying that he did not understand the consequences of entering the plea, alleging that the consequences were not explained to him. Gingler allegedly bound a woman he lived with duct tape, then beat, kicked, raped and tortured her in May of 2016. He underwent psychological examination before entering the plea and was found fit to proceed to trial. Gingler is an inmate at Grimes Unit of the State Prison in Newport.
