Officials with the Lelia Heuer Foundation in Springfield recently donated $10,000 to Missouri State University-West Plains to continue funding four scholarships already established at the university.
The money will be used for two $2,500 Lelia Heuer Restricted Current Scholarships and two $2,500 Lelia Heuer Restricted Current Scholarships for Howell County. The scholarships will be available for the 2019-2020 academic year.
The scholarships were established in 2005 to “significantly impact the lives of the scholarship recipients” and to assist students who may not qualify for federal or state grant assistance.
Primary consideration for the Lelia Heuer Restricted Current Scholarships will be given to non-traditional students who live in Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Texas, Shannon or Wright counties. Recipients should be either high school graduates or have completed a high school equivalency exam.
Primary consideration for the Lelia Heuer Restricted Current Scholarships for Howell County will be given to traditional students who are graduates of a Howell County public high school.
Heuer, who was born in West Plains and lived in Lebanon, believed in helping others throughout her life. Through her foundation, her gifts have helped over 70 Missouri State-West Plains students achieve their dreams
