Police Release More Details About Incident And Manhunt In Thayer Monday Night

More details have been released about man arrested early Tuesday morning by Thayer Police.

The Thayer Police Department received a call Monday night  shortly after from a female on South 3rd street reporting a male subject had pulled a gun on her and was threatening harm to her as well as himelf.

Once law enforcement arrived, the reporting party (R.P.) identified the male as Cory Brandon Newman, Age 28 of Mammoth Spring, AR and that he had choked her and stuck a gun to her head after an argument. The R.P. also stated that Mr. Newman was a felon and had ran out and around the back of the house before law enforcement arrival. A manhunt involving officers from the Thayer Police Department, Oregon County Sheriff’s Office, Mammoth Spring Police Department & Fulton County Sheriff’s Office was formed to try and locate Mr. Newman. Officers also stood by at the Thayer First Baptist Christian Activity Center while vacation bible school was letting out during the manhunt.

On the morning of July 2, 2019 just before 2:00 am, Thayer Police received a call reporting that Mr. Newman was back at the residence. Officers located Mr. Newman in the residence and took him into custody without incident. A stolen hand gun was also recovered in the residence.

Mr. Newman was transported to Thayer Jail where he was booked and placed on a 24 Hour Hold pending formal charges.

This incident is still under investigation by the Thayer Police Department.
