A suspect in the shooting of a Carter County Deputy and a State Patrol Trooper is now in custody. 31 year old James Cummings of Van Buren was arrested after a standoff Friday on Rte M. Deputy Brig Pierson and Trooper Caleb McCoy went to the residence Friday morning to serve an eviction notice. Deputy Pierson was shot in the leg, groin and chest. Trooper McCoy was shot in the shoulder and in his protective vest. Trooper McCoy was treated at an area hospital and released. Deputy Pierson was taken to a St Louis Hospital and is in Stable condition. The suspect James Cummings surrender around 5pm Friday afternoon
