
The West Plains City Council met on Monday and had several items on their agenda, including a new ordinance on texting and driving for those younger than 21 years old. The new city code prohibits them from texting or using their cell phone while driving. The Council also heard from City Finance Director Todd Harman, who talked about the Christmas bonus’ for city employees. There had been some confusion on the issue and he told the council there would not be any Christmas bonus’ but there would be some compensation. Harmon proposed payouts of $600 to all full time employees hired before October 1st and $200 for part time. The Cost of the compensation is estimated to be around $140,000 to the city. The City Council approved the extra pay as part of an ordinance amending the budget for 2020.
