Missouri Is Designing Plan To Raise Teachers Pay

Missouri is designing a plan that would boost pay for Missouri’s 70,000 public school teachers. The $320 million proposal would increase the base minimum pay for K-12 teachers from $25,000 to $32,000 and give all teachers a $4,000 raise. The last time Missouri changed its minimum teacher salary was in 2005. Paul Katnik, assistant commissioner of the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Office of Educator Quality, says the top reason for teachers jumping ship is low pay.

Katnik could not say when the proposal would be ready for state board and legislative consideration.
