A man from Imboden is being held in Lawrence County on rape charges involving an infant. 26 year old Joey Penix was arrested after authorities were dispatched to White River Medical Center Emergency room in Cherokee Village for a report of a possible sexual abuse of an infant. The Child was transported to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock. After an investigation by Highland Police and the Arkansas State Police, Penix allegedly admitted to hurting the child. He was taken to Sharp County jail then transferred to Lawrence County. He is charged with class Y felony rape. A Class Y felony is considered one of the most serious crimes not punishable by death.
