
A man wanted on warrants in Missouri was arrested Thursday in Izard County after a six-hour standoff with police that involved gunfire. 53 year old Sherman Shelter of Oxford surrendered around 3 Thursday afternoon. The incident began when The Izard County Sheriff’s Department went to Shelter’s home Thursday morning to investigate a domestic complaint, they then learned Shelter had warrants for his arrest in Missouri. When they attempted to serve the warrants, Shelter fired shots at them. A SWAT team from the Arkansas State police was called in. During the standoff Shelter fired shots at an officer and the officer returned fire hitting Shelter. Shelter surrender after several hours and was taken to a medical center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
