Missouri Has First Coronavirus Death

Missouri Gov. Mike Parson on Wednesday announced the first coronavirus death in the state happened in Boone County, without providing further details on the person.

For most people, the new coronavirus causes only mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia.

According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, nine patients tested positive through the state lab on Wednesday, March 18. There are now a total of 24 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Missouri.
