Howell County Sheriff’s Office Warns Citizens Of Scam

scam-alert-2

The Howell County Sheriff’s Department is reporting on social media that there is a scam going around. They say

(Sheriff’s Department Post Below)

Scammers are calling folks in our area with a “spoofed” or cloned number (in attempts to make it look real) saying they are from the Social Security Administration and the DEA Drug task force and that recipients of the call are about to have a warrant issued for $300,000.00 for a rental car that was rented in the recipient’s name due to all the blood and other items found in the car if they do not give them money card numbers….

Folks, this is a SCAM!!!!!! The Social Security Administration nor the DEA Drug task force will NEVER CALL YOU AND DEMAND MONEY CARDS, ITUNE CARDS OR ANYTHING OF THAT NATURE!

Do NOT fall for this scam! One elderly lady called our office after it was too late. She bought $4,000.00 worth of money cards that these crooks are probably laughing about! Please help us get the word out!!! Talk to your friends, neighbors, fellow church goers and let them know that this scam is going around! We are deeply saddened for the lady, however, not much can be done to help her other than getting her story out and making sure this doesn’t happen to anyone else!!!!

our agency nor any other law enforcement agency will call you and tell you that there is a warrant or a warrant will be issued, that gives people with warrants time to flee and hide!!!!!
