Three Oregon County Women Face Federal Charges In Telemarketing Scam

Sixty people have been charged in a widespread magazine telemarketing scam that authorities say netted $300 million from more than 150,000 elderly and vulnerable people nationwide, the U.S. attorney’s office in Minnesota announced Wednesday.

U.S. Attorney Erica MacDonald called the scam the largest elder fraud scheme in the country.

 

Three of the defendants are from Oregon County another is a former Fulton County resident.

 

56 year old BONNIE LEE COLBERT, of Alton, Missouri, a telemarketer, is charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud, wire fraud, and violating the SCAMS Act. Colbert was arrested yesterday.

 

60 year old YVONNE PATTERSON, of Thayer, Missouri, owner and operator of a Missouri-based company involved in fraudulent magazine sales, is charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud, wire fraud, and violating the SCAMS Act.

 

40 year old JESSICA MARIE PRINCE, of Thayer, Missouri, call center manager, is charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud, wire fraud, and violating the SCAMS Act.

 

Also a former Mammoth Spring  resident, 47 year old Charitie A. Seelye, who now lives in Peki Illinois, who was a call center manager is charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud and wire fraud.

The indictments and other court documents say that over the last 20 years, the defendants used a network of dozens of fraudulent magazine sales companies and telemarketing call centers to carry out the scam. Employees allegedly used deceptive sales scripts to trick people into making large or repeat payments to the companies.
