Missouri State senior Gaige Prim (F, Aurora, Colo.) has been named Missouri Valley Conference Co-Player of the Week, the league announced Wednesday afternoon.
Prim and Southern Illinois sophomore Marcus Domask share this week’s outstanding player laurels.
Prim helped lead Missouri State to a 3-0 start to the season after posting three double-figure scoring games in less than a week and averaging 18.7 points per game. His robust stat lines pushed him into the national top 10 in four statistical categories throughout the week, and he currently ranks fourth nationally (and first in the MVC) in field goal percentage (.778). He is also first in the MVC in blocks, first in offensive rebounds, second in scoring, second in rebounding, second in assists and 10th in steals.
Prim finished the week 21-of-27 from the field, while posting 6.7 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 3.4 assist-to-turnover ratio. He began the season with a 20-point effort against William Jewell on 9-of-11 from the field with 6 rebounds and 8 assists. He followed that effort with a career-high 26 points in the home victory over Northwestern State, converting 9-of-12 field goals, 9 rebounds and 9 assists and coming just shy of the first triple double in Missouri State history. He then ended the week going 3-for-4 from the field and 4-for-4 at the line in limited time against Sun Belt preseason favorite Little Rock.
The effort against Little Rock extended Prim’s streak to 16 straight double-figure scoring games, dating back to last season.
Prim is the first Missouri State player since Tulio Da Silva (Feb. 18, 2019) to earn the MVC’s Player of the Week honor.
He and the Bears will begin conference play Sunday at 3 p.m. at Northern Iowa (ESPN+), followed by a 7 p.m. game at UNI on Monday (FOX Sports Midwest) that was moved to 7 p.m. to accommodate television.
