WEST PLAINS, MO – COVID-19 vaccination clinics that were scheduled to take place through Ozarks Healthcare Feb. 15-19 have been rescheduled. On Feb. 15, Missouri Governor Mike Parson announced the cancelation of all COVID-19 mass vaccination events in partnership with the Missouri National Guard, Department of Health and Senior Services, and State Emergency Management Agency that were scheduled to take place this week in the interest of safety due to extreme winter weather.
Mass Vaccination Clinic for Pfizer Booster (Second) Doses rescheduled for Feb. 26
Weather-permitting, Ozarks Healthcare, the Missouri National Guard, Howell County Health Department, and City of West Plains will partner to host a mass COVID-19 vaccination clinic at the West Plains Civic Center on Feb. 26. Booster (second) doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine only will be administered to those who received their initial dose of the vaccine at the initial clinic on Jan. 29.
Eligible attendees will receive updates via phone call and email over the next few days to inform them of the rescheduled date. Individuals will be asked to arrive at the West Plains Civic Center on Feb. 26 at a designated time frame according to his or her last name between the following times:
A-C: 7:30 a.m. – 9 a.m.
D-I: 9 a.m. – 11 p.m.
J-M: 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
N-S: 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
T-Z: 3 p.m. – 4 p.m.
“While we understand concerns surrounding vaccination events that were scheduled to take place, we want our community to know that protecting the safety of all attendees is at the top of all host organizations’ priorities,” Chris Gilliam, Howell County Health Department Director and Incident Commander for the clinic, said.
The slight delay will not affect the efficacy of the second dose. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the second dose may be administered as late as six weeks after the first dose.
“We want to reassure our community this delay will not reduce the effectiveness of their booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.” Katie Mahan, Director of Ozarks Healthcare’s Pharmacy, said. “While six weeks is approximately the latest time frame recommended to wait to receive your second dose, we want to continue emphasizing the importance of getting your second dose approximately two weeks after receiving your first dose. Clinical research shows that you will have 90 to 95 percent protection against COVID-19 after a week or more upon receiving your second vaccine. It’s important you take advantage of the vaccine while you can for the best potential immunity against the virus.”
Individuals who attend the clinic on Feb. 26 will be asked to complete a paper consent form on site. Vaccine cards will need to be presented upon arrival.
Future Vaccination Clinics for Moderna First and Booster (Second) Doses scheduled
Missouri residents who have not received their initial dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and those who need their second dose of the Moderna vaccine after receiving their first dose on or before Jan. 28 may be eligible to receive the vaccine at upcoming clinics scheduled at Ozarks Healthcare locations next week. Those interested in receiving either their first or booster (second) dose of the vaccine must sign up through the Missouri Vaccine Navigator, a secure registry tool recently launched by the state of Missouri to assist Missourians in receiving their COVID-19 vaccine. The Navigator can be accessed through Ozarks Healthcare’s website at www.ozarkshealthcare.com or www.covidvaccine.mo.gov. If internet accessibility is an issue, the Navigator Hotline can be reached by calling 877-435-8411. Those needing to register for their second doses who are not already signed up through the Navigator may call Ozarks Healthcare’s COVID-19 Hotline at 417-505-7120.
Individuals are declared eligible to receive their COVID-19 vaccine by the state of Missouri’s priority vaccination phases. Currently, those who meet the criteria of being in Phase 1A, Phase 1B-Tier 1, and Phase 1B-Tier 2 may receive their vaccine. Full tier definitions can be found at www.covidvaccine.mo.gov.
After registering online with the Navigator, you will be contacted by Navigator staff to confirm your appointment and vaccination clinic location.
Ozarks Healthcare will administer first and second doses (to those who received their first dose on or before Jan. 28) of the Moderna vaccine at the following locations and time frames. All of the clinics mentioned below are listed on the Navigator:

Non-Missouri residents who want to receive the vaccine once it becomes available to them may only be eligible to be vaccinated in Missouri if they are employed or receive primary medical care in Missouri. Those who register through the Navigator will be notified when the activation of a new vaccination phase occurs and alerted when they become eligible to receive the vaccine.
Those who have previously signed up through Ozarks Healthcare’s original online sign-up form are encouraged to sign up through the Navigator again to ensure they are added to the state’s waiting list in addition to that of the organization. Duplicate sign-ups do not prohibit an individual’s eligibility to receive the vaccine.
