
Monday morning at approximately 6:00 a.m. the Izard County Sheriff’s Department was notified of a house fire at 756 Peterson Circle in Mount Pleasant and that there was also a deceased individual at that location.
Upon arrival at the scene the officers were met by a neighbor. The neighbor advised that when he arrived the deceased owner of the home was in his truck in front of the house and that he had pulled the body out of the truck and away from the burning house.
Evidence gathered at the scene along with interviews of witness’ are consistent with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The body has been sent to the State Crime Laboratory for an autopsy. Release of the victim’s name is pending notification of next of kin. The case is still under investigation. However foul play is not suspected at this time.
