New Landmark Dedicated At Oregon County Courthouse

The Oregon County Courthouse has a new landmark on the front lawn. An old Millstone from the Greer Spring Mill has been placed on the lawn and was recently dedicated. The millstone was built by Confederate Captain Samuel Greer in 1859.  The mill was operational until 1922. The old Greer Spring Mill building is being restored by Friends of The Eleven Point River, the U.S. Forest Service and Historicorps. The old mill is about 9 miles north of Alton on Highway 19.
