A man from Fulton County has been arrested for theft of cattle and goats in Searcy County.
37-year-old Steven Bashaw of Salem, AR was arrested after an investigation by the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office and the Arkansas Department of Agriculture.
Searcy County Sheriff Kenny Cassell’s office was contracted by the seller of the cattle in late June saying that he had an agreement with Bashaw to sell him 5 Holstein cows and 14 goats for $5,600.
A person pulled up to the seller’s property and started to load up the cattle and leave, but was chased down by the seller.
That’s when the unknown person handed the seller 4 checks for the amount of $1,400 to pay for the animals.
When the checks were attempted to be deposited at a bank, the seller learned those checks were fraudulent.
Bashaw is being charged with 4 counts of forgery and theft of property.
He posted a $15,000 bond and is now free, he’ll be in the Searcy County Circuit Court on July 21.
