Arkansas, Missouri see rise in COVID-19 cases, area hospitals reporting additional hospitalizations

Arkansas reported a large rise in COVID-19 cases yesterday. 

According to the Arkansas Department of Health, there were 1,300 new cases of the virus, hospitalizations increased by 41 to 647 total, and deaths increased by 7 to 5,977.

The CDC says only 35% of the state has been fully vaccinated. 

A study from John Hopkins University says that Arkansas has been near the top state in the country for new cases per capita over the past two weeks. 

According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, the state added 1,460 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, also adding 15 new deaths. 

White River Medical Center in Batesville says their hospital has some room, but with the rate of hospitalizations on the rise in Arkansas, they could soon see that change. 

WRMC has 27 current patients hospitalized for COVID-19. 

 

The Fulton County Hospital in Salem, AR has announced changes to its visitation policy amid the surge in cases. 

According to hospital authorities, only one visitor over the age of 14 per patient per day. 

The hospital also announced it closed its gift shop and cafeteria to the public. 

 

In a press release on Wednesday, Ozarks Healthcare reported its the highest number of coronavirus cases since early January. 

The hospital reported 15 COVID-19 positive patients were in their hospital being cared for. 

Over the past few weeks, Ozarks Healthcare has administered an average of between 20-30 vaccines daily. Yesterday, pharmacists administered more than 50 vaccinations. Anyone interested in receiving a COVID-19 vaccine may call Ozarks Healthcare’s Pharmacy at 417-256-1793 to schedule an appointment.
