BREAKING NEWS:

In a press release, the Sharp County Sheriff’s Office says that a deputy was shot by a minor on Friday.

Sharp County Dispatch received a call from a motorist advising of a possible runaway juvenile male riding his bicycle on Arkansas Highway 175 between Wirth and Hardy.

Sharp County Deputy Marc Boyd and Hardy Police Department Officer Gallagher located the juvenile on Arkansas Highway 175.

After confirming that the juvenile was not a runaway, Deputy Boyd loaded the juvenile bicycle into his truck, secured the child in his patrol unit, took the juvenile to get some ice cream at a nearby gas station, and began taking the juvenile to his residence.

While en route to the home, the juvenile pulled a pistol out of his backpack, and shot through Deputy Boyd’s cage, and ultimately hit him in his arm.

The Deputy was transported by the Spring River Ambulance Service to White River Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries, and the juvenile has been taken into custody and is awaiting the filing of formal charges.
