A woman from Izard County is facing multiple charges including escaping custody on Saturday.
Charges were filed on Aug. 23 according to court records.
The probable cause affidavit states that Izard County Sheriff’s Deputy Randy Brassfield was dispatched to an address in Melbourne about an intoxicated female causing a disturbance.
Upon arrival Sgt. Mike Smith observed a garage door had been smashed through with a vehicle.
As Smith started to enter the garage, he heard a female voice from the back yard who was identified as 42-year-old Lena Cone.
Smith observed Lena moving toward another person on the property in an aggressive manner, that’s when Smith placed her in restraints.
She shouted that the person did not belong on her property and accused them of cheating.
Sgt. Smith stated that he could smell alcohol on the suspect.
Deputy Brassfield and Smith escorted her to a patrol unit.
After both officers returned to the residence to continue the investigation and photographed damages caused by Cone.
As deputies exited the residence, they found the patrol unit’s door that Cone was in was open and she was no longer in the unit.
After searching, they found her lying face up in a creek near the home, officers then assisted her in sitting up, then Cone began trying to remove her restraints.
She refused medical treatment on the scene, and Sgt. Smith was taken to the Izard County Detention Facility.
Once at the facility, Smith asked Cone to exit his unit and she stated that she was not going to be getting out.
Smith advised that she could exit the vehicle or be removed.
Cone then told the officers to “try it”.
Smith attempted to remove her and found that her left hand had escaped restraints.
After removal from the vehicle she was kicking and swinging, and struck Sgt. Smith with her right arm that still had restraints on it, hitting the side of the officer’s head.
Smith then threatened to taser her, she continued, then fired the taser and one probe made contact.
After assistance from a jailer, Cone was placed into restraints and taken into the facility.
Smith sustained minor injuries during the altercation and Cone had damaged Smith’s phone valued at less than $1000.
42-year-old Lena Cone is now facing charges of felony aggravated assault, felony 2nd-degree battery, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, 3rd-degree escape, and 2nd-degree criminal mischief causing damage of less than $1000.
She is being held on a $10,000 bond in the Izard County Detention Center.
