A study from the journal Injury Epidemiology shows that more than 560,000 children have been treated in the emergency room from 1990 to 2019 for injuries caused by furniture or TVs that had tipped over and hit the child.

70% of children hurt were younger than 6 years old, most of them being around 2 years old.

The study also showed that half of the injuries were to the head or neck area.

There were some tips mentioned to keep your child from being the victim of furniture injuries.

Mount televisions to the wall, but if you can’t, put a TV on a piece of furniture that is designed to hold it, then anchor them to the wall.

Another tip was to keep the furniture and TVs clear of items.

If you place things on top of them, that could cause the children to climb the piece, causing it to tip on top of them.

Currently, there is a bill awaiting action in the Senate that will address furniture tip-overs.

If the bill does become a law, it would require the Consumer Product Safety Commission to create a mandatory federal rule to require furniture stability.
