The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is looking into an outbreak source for a fast-growing salmonella outbreak, which has cases reported in both Arkansas and Missouri.
18 people have been placed in the hospital with the illness, and 127 cases of salmonella have been reported, but only two cases have been reported in Arkansas and Missouri.
While investigators do not know a specific food source for the outbreak, they ask you to see your local health care provider if you experience any of the following symptoms:
- Diarrhea and a fever higher than 102 degrees
- Diarrhea for more than three days
- Bloody diarrhea
- Continuous vomiting and being unable to keep liquids down
- Signs of dehydration such as having a dry mouth and throat, feeling dizzy when standing up, and not urinating as often as usual.
If you experience any of these symptoms, contact your healthcare provider and take action.
Write down a list of what you ate the week before you became ill, report your illness to the health department, and answer any questions that public health investigators might have.
Always keep food that isn’t being cooked separated from seafood, raw meat, and poultry, wash your hands, clean utensils that are being used often, and cook food to the correct temperature to kill bacteria.
