ECNN had a chance to meet with members of the Thayer/Mammoth Spring Community Betterment Association regarding economic development in the City of Thayer.
The big topic of discussion was the City of Thayer pursuing the potential purchase of the former River Country Chevrolet lot in Thayer.
In the discussion, they spoke that the TMSCBA board is committed to making both Mammoth Spring and Thayer a better place to live for all citizens.
E-Communications President and CEO Bob Eckman is a member of the board and told us he has a strong passion for the future and growth in our community, after graduating and raising his children in the area.
Two major issues the board took on when they first started meeting in 2020 were looking into improvements to infrastructure, and bringing jobs to the communities.
The board also started seeking workable land and businesses that would be interested in building on it.
After searching other land plots around the City of Thayer, the board decided it would be best to pursue the industrial park, then started looking at businesses that would be interested in moving their businesses there.
The board then started talking to the city about using the industrial park for economic development.
A problem arose that city utility buildings would be in the way of trying to build on the land and that is when the city realized they needed to move the departments to a more centralized location.
Board member Bob Eckman says that after searching for a plot for the city to relocate buildings too, the River Country lot looked like a gift.
Improvements are now underway at the lot, including turning the showroom into a court or meeting room, building a fence behind the lot, and cleaning and renovating inside the building.
Some projects are still in the works though for the industrial park, after the city moves decisions will have to be made by the council on what to do with sections of the industrial park.
