A crash led to negligent homicide charges being filed in Fulton County on Sept 22.

Court documents state that Arkansas State Trooper Phillip Gonten was dispatched to a serious injury crash on Highway 62 west of Viola.

When Trooper Gonten arrived on the scene, the victim of the crash was taken to a regional hospital for treatment, but it was later learned that the driver of the vehicle sustained fatal injuries.

The operator of the other vehicle, 67-year-old Kathleen Gamble was sitting in the driver’s seat of her vehicle, and had bloodshot, watery eyes, and had difficulty speaking.

The trooper asked if she had taken any medication and she said “Xanax and a little weed”.

Gamble was taken to a regional hospital to be treated for her injuries, then Trooper Gonten spoke with Gamble again at the hospital and her responses were indifferent and she advised that she did not know what happened in the accident.

After Gamble consented to a blood draw, it was sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab, where it came back positive for cannabinoids.

Gamble was found at fault for the accident based on physical evidence at the time of the crash.

She now faces charges for felony negligent homicide by vehicle while intoxicated, 1st degree driving while intoxicated, driving left of center, and careless and prohibited driving.

Gamble appeared for arraigned in the Fulton County Circuit Court on Sept 28.
