Community leaders meet with state legislators to discuss industrial park improvements

September was a busy month for the City of Thayer after the city council discussed, and eventually passed a motion to pursue the former River Country Chevrolet, then that plan falling through.

We told you Saturday that on Thursday, members from the Missouri Department of Economic Development, SCOCOG, State Legislators, including Karla Esslinger, Ron Copeland, and a representative for Congressman Jason Smith met with community leaders such as City of Thayer Mayor Kenny Cotham, Thayer EDC, TCBA, and the Chamber of Commerce to develop a plan for economic development for the area.

The meeting was to help look into ways to grow communities, and ways to improve the industrial park in Thayer.

Improvements would include park upgrades, looking into developing the pool area, and bringing potential businesses to the area.

An item that was discussed at the meeting was improving the intersection of Highway 63 and 142.

Oregon County Commissioner David Stubblefield would work with MoDOT to see what their options could include.

Bob Eckman is a board member of the Thayer EDC and he tells us more.

The city is looking to host a town hall meeting later this year and showing the public what options the city has for developing the area.
