The Baxter County Quorum Court met on Tuesday evening in Mountain Home, and the main item on the agenda was a wage increase for deputies and jailers at the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office.
During the September meeting of the quorum court, a new personnel policy manual was adopted for the sheriff’s office, which would separate the employees from the county’s wage scale.
With the county already including a $1 per hour increase to all employees in 2022, and with the labor shortage, Sheriff John Montgomery said that the proposed $270,000 for the department would help with the recruitment and retainment of employees.
The Sheriff said he felt the dollar an hour wouldn’t help keep employees or recruit employees from other agencies.
The court voted and passed the amount, and will result in a $7,000-$8,000 pay increase for deputies and jailers within the Sheriff’s Office.
An increase in pay will go into effect on Jan. 1.
