The annual Hunger Hero Campaign has concluded for 2021, and the Mammoth Spring School District walks away with the traveling trophy.
Mammoth Spring completed the campaign with 4,729 total items; the leading classroom was Mrs. Janet Smoots Preschool class, totaling 700 items.
I spoke to Superintendant Jenny Whisnant winning the trophy, and she says it’s good to help the community.
Thayer had a total of 2,291 items collected, and Pre-K was in the lead with 583.
Koshkonong had 1600, with Mrs. Wiggs’ class holding 400 total items.
Finally, the Couch school had 1331, with the 4th-grade class having 311.
As for our corporate sponsors, which include Community 1st Banking Company in Thayer and West Plains, FNBC Community Bankers in Mammoth Spring and the Ozarks Healthcare Clinics on the Stateline, and the Mammoth Clinic collected a combined total of 2490 items.
In the total between both the schools and community, we were able to collect 10,841 total canned goods and non-perishable food items, which will support Oregon County and Shining Light Food Pantry.
We thank you for being a Hunger Hero this year.
