A man was arrested in Sharp County for a stabbing case that dates back to December.

According to an affidavit from the Sharp County Sheriff’s Office, authorities were called to a residence on Grane road after receiving a call for help from a woman who said she was stabbed.

When authorities arrived on the scene, 38-year-old Rustin Cantrell of Cave City was taken into custody.

Cantrell was a known felon and told authorities he had a gun inside the home.

The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment and told authorities that Cantrell had become “ugly” when the two were working in animal pens earlier in the day.

The victim stated she went outside for a few minutes and then went to sit in a vehicle.

Cantrell opened the car door and began to beat her, then stated he would kill her before stabbing her in the abdomen area with a knife.

The victim then took out a knife and cut her wrist, believing authorities would not arrive in time to help her.

Cantrell told the victim to get out of the vehicle and to get cleaned up, or he would kill her.

Cantrell left to take care of more work on the property, and the victim found a phone and was able to call for help.

He faces charges for felony possession of firearms by certain persons, felony domestic battery, felony terroristic threatening, and misdemeanor interference with emergency communications.
