The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a man and woman on multiple charges.
Court documents show that on Jan. 27, new Fulton County Sheriff Joe Boshears, probation and parole officer Steve Simers, and Deputy Blair Ables arrived at a residence on Sixth Street in Mammoth Spring where they had received information that 25-year-old Matthew Brinkley, an absconder and registered level two sex offender, was staying.
Brinkley had cut off his GPS ankle monitoring device and disposed of it near the Mammoth Spring State Park.
Brinkley had not registered the address he was living at, which is required by law.
Sheriff Boshears and Agent Simers arrived at the residence and spoke to Brinkley’s wife, Nicole Travis, at the door.
She stated multiple times that Brinkley did not live at the residence and denied knowing where he resided.
Sheriff Boshears asked Travis multiple times, and she continued to say that Brinkley was not at the residence.
The Sheriff and Officer Simers entered the residence and found Brinkley in a bedroom.
It was also discovered that three young children were in the residence along with Brinkley and Travis.
A search of the bedroom where Brinkley was located revealed a 9mm High Point firearm hidden behind the bed, drug paraphernalia for inhaling and using methamphetamine, a set of digital scales, multiple smoking devices with burned residue inside, and an Altoids can containing several different pills.
Brinkley stated the kids had resided in the residence with him for over a month, and the drugs and other paraphernalia had been there a week.
He then admitted that he would fail a drug test for “dope” and marijuana.
The suspected drugs and paraphernalia were easily accessible for the children to get to, lying in plain view in the bedroom.
All items discovered were confiscated due to Brinkley being a convicted felon.
His bond from a previous case was revoked due to violating the bond conditions on that case.
At a later date, Deputy Ables tested the smoking device and produced a positive result for methamphetamine.
Brinkley is charged with felony possession of firearms by certain persons, felony possession of drug paraphernalia, felony criminal mischief for damaging more than $1,000 but less than $5,000, three felony counts for endangering the welfare of a minor, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was given no bond.
Brinkley’s wife, 38-year-old Nicole Travis, is charged with felony hindering apprehension or prosecuting, felony possession of drug paraphernalia, three felony counts for endangering the welfare of a minor, and misdemeanor drug paraphernalia.
Travis’ bond was set at $5,000.
