A Cabool, MO man was arrested after a fatal accident in Texas County on early Monday morning.
According to crash reports, a 1995 Jeep Cherokee driven by 18-year-old Shelman Coen of Cabool, MO, traveled westbound on Highway U, 1.5 miles east of Cabool, MO, when the vehicle went off the right side of the road and overturned.
Coen suffered only minor injuries, while a 20-year-old passenger, Ian Smart of Willow Springs, MO, was killed.
Smart was pronounced dead by the Texas County coroner.
This is Troop G’s second fatality, compared to four this time in 2021.
Coen is charged with felony driving while intoxicated – manslaughter.
He was taken to the Texas County Jail and was placed on a 24-hour hold.
The crash occurred Monday morning around 12:02 am.
