An inmate in the North Central Unit Prison faces charges after an altercation on Jan. 6.

According to court documents filed on Friday, Special Agent Jackie Stinnett of the Arkansas State Police said that Corrections Officers came in contact with 44-year-old inmate Sam Tawfik.

Tawfik was removed from a restrictive housing cell to return him to the general population.

When inmate Tawfik was outside the cell, he became agitated and shouted multiple obscenities to the officers.

Inmate Tawfik was placed in hand restraints and continued his dangerous state.

He then attempted to pull away from officers and told them he would spit on them.

The Corrections Officers gained control of Inmate Tawfik by placing him on the ground.

As Tawfik was being placed on the ground, he spit on the shirt and pants of a Corrections Officer.

Video footage captured the incident inside the prison.

On Feb. 7, Arkansas State Police attempted to interview Tawfik at the prison.

Still, he refused to be transported to the interview room and stated he did not wish to speak with investigators.

He faces charges for felony aggravated assault on a corrections officer and being an enhanced physical offender.

He was given no bond.
